Classes

The core of the Echo Park Film Center is community. We believe it is imperative that the people of our neighborhood receive access to the tools that will enable them to tell their own stories through the medium of film and share these stories with the world. We provide free media arts classes for local youth and seniors. We also host weekend Super 8 and editing workshops at a nominal fee for beginning adult filmmakers. Our Spring Guest Lecture Series, offered free of charge to the general public, invites established filmmakers and film industry professionals to share their experience and insight on a wide array of film-related topics.

In addition to cameras, film, editing equipment and comprehensive technical instruction, we seek to provide our students of all ages with a safe, supportive learning/working environment and hands-on experience in individual and collaborative film projects. While technical proficiency, knowledge of film history and genres, and awareness of the opportunities within the entertainment marketplace are important components of our programs, we believe the main value and vitality of the Echo Park Film Center manifests itself through encouraging new filmmakers to create work that is meaningful, original, personal and articulate. This approach, while basic in premise, is unique in a city where focus on filmmaking too often centers on product rather than process.
