Tenth Annual EPFC Human Rights Film Festival

EPFC is currently accepting submissions for the Human Rights Film Festival, an annual presentation of documentary films highlighting national and global social justice themes.

Basic human rights, including the right to peacefully assemble, the right to religious freedom, the right of political sovereignty and the right to life and liberty, are often taken for granted in Western industrialized nations. In the post-9/11 landscape, issues of human rights are increasingly complex and closer to home than ever before.

The 10th Annual Human Rights Film Festival will take place at EPFC on October 22 and 23, 2010. We are currently seeking films on human rights issues that promote thought, discussion, debate and action. Please send submissions on mini-DV or DVD, clearly marked with filmmaker contact information to:

EPFC Youth Film Festival

The 2010 Youth Film Fest will be held June 5 at The Smell and The Downtown Independent in Los Angeles.

Started in 2005, the EPFC Youth Film Fest is an annual event that seeks to

  1. present a diverse and eclectic array of youth-produced documentary, experimental and animated films from around the world
  2. bring together young filmmakers and dedicated youth arts educators to share images, ideas and knowledge
  3. provide a forum for young filmmakers to use the power of cinema in order to tell their stories and change the world

Festival Information: FEED THE MONSTERSend us your films! The Echo Park Film Center is inviting young filmmakers up to the age of 19 to submit short films for the 2010 EPFC Youth Film Festival. This year, the festival will be run by the MONSTER! The MONSTER wants films from Los Angeles and beyond! He thrives on the sounds and images of neighborhoods around the world! The Echo Park Film Center will be inviting youth from around the world to send in images, sounds, music and especially FILMS to feed the monster so that he might sleep for another year, fat on world youth media!

The MONSTER's looking to explore neighborhoods in Los Angeles and beyond - films from around the world that breach the continental divides and bring out the individual intimacy of neighborhoods near and far!  Filmmakers are free to creatively express themselves within any film genre (i.e. Experimental, Documentary, Narrative, Animation etc.) but remember, the monster is temperamental and might chew up and spit your film right out! We need more than films - still images, ambient sounds, conversations, music, and video clips from all over to go into a giant live musical and media performance by a local youth orchestra - bombarding the MONSTER with enough media to send him back into his slumber! We urge you to utilize imagery of your community and the people within it to bring this monster to life!

Selected films (and still image, sounds, and music) will be screened with live music on the day of the festival and posted on EPFC ’s YouTube Channel: here.

Create a film, say something about the world, and hear it live!
