Please join us to celebrate our 2020 Youth Artist-In-Resident, Angel Reyes, for an evening of films, photographs and food! The event is FREE and all are welcome!
My name is Angel Reyes and I was born and raised in Highland Park, California. Like many Angelenos – I am the child of immigrants. My Father is from El Salvador and my Mother is from Mexico. They meet almost 30 years ago in Los Angeles. I am the youngest of three children and both of my sisters are also artists – one is a dancer the other is a musician.
My interest in photography began when I was 12 years old and started attending Ren Arts Middle School in Eagle Rock. At this time, I became more aware of the images all around me – both in the neighborhood and in the classroom. I loved the idea of being able to carry a camera and capture the world!
I am now 16 years old and even though I have only been taking photos and making films for 4 years – I feel like I have progressed greatly and my skills have become better.
I am excited to be a Youth Artist-in-Residence at the Echo Park Film Center because it gives me the opportunity to work and learn from established filmmakers and artists. I have been attending EPFC’s free classes for youth for the past 2 years. But now have the opportunity to also focus on my own work and love of photography.
The work in the show creates a dialogue around the importance of murals and their role in social justice in small neighborhoods.
I would like to thank the Echo Park Film Center for giving me this opportunity and my family and friends for their support and encouragement.
This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. To find out more about how National Endowment for the Arts grants impact individuals and communities, visit www.arts.gov. FREE EVENT! FILMMAKER IN ATTENDANCE!No Events
