WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 1 - A NIGHT OF VIDEOS BY PIA RONNIKE - 8PM

Pia Ronnike is currently the resident artist at the Danish Artist in Residency Program in Los Angeles. She will screen and then discuss a number of short works. Urban Fiction (2003) is shaped as a meshwork of allusions and references. The film borrows its style of narration from Jean-Luc Godard’s Masculine Feminine. Zonen (2005) is a semi-staged account of a visit by three young Danish architects to a site outside Århus that was designated as an industrial area 10 years ago. Roads were built, and some other infrastructure, but the factories never materialized. In 2005 a group of architects have won a competition to turn the zone into a town for 25,000 people. Rosa’s Letters - Telling a Story (2006) Pia will tell us about the project, the socialist Rosa Luxemburg and show us clips from the two films. FILMMAKER IN ATTENDANCE

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3 – LA OFRENDA (FILMS & VIDEOS OF MEMORY & LOSS) – 7PM

In conjunction with UNDER SPRING and FARMLAB, we are curating work for a Day of the Dead altar adjacent to the LA River. Join us as we screen videos about "memory, loss and the passage of time". The event is free and located under the Spring Street Bridge where it crosses the LA River. Four distinct areas will offer a plethora of interactive events: performance & visual artists, drumming circles, video/digital presentations, dances, live music, tamales, non-alcoholic beverages and more. Revolving around all this activity will be a traditional Ofrenda for all who wish to remember their loved ones. You may place a picture, a memento, a candle or a flower to this collective community offering for the ancestors, to celebrate life.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4 – EXQUISITE CORPSE COMES ALIVE – 8PM

Thirty-three back-to-back one-minute videos made by 33 artists, each using a different minute of Black Sabbath's Master of Reality album as a soundtrack. This 2006 video is the fourth in the series, all made during the weeks leading to Halloween. Organized by Christy Karacas and Luke Crotty in Brooklyn, NY. In conjunction with the opening of Untitled (Silver) a video installation by Takeshi Murata at Machine Project (next door to EPFC). FREE EVENT!!!

MONDAY, NOV. 6 & TUESDAY, NOV. 7– CINE SIN FIN - EAST LA FILM FESTIVAL – 7PM

Cine Sin Fin was established in the summer of 1995 to create a venue for Chicana and Chicano independent filmmakers, writers, directors, and actors to showcase their film projects at a community film festival in East Los Angeles. For the past twelve years, Cine Sin Fin has continued to empower, personify and promote positive images of Chicanas and Chicanos in film. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9 – ERNEST GUESSLA SCREENING – 8PM

Ernest Gusella’s videotapes combine experimental engineering, avant-garde music, psychedelia and Dadaist theater. As he once put it, “my art is 1/4 fornicalia funk, 1/4 New York punk, 1/4 European bunk, and 1/4 Canadian skunk.” Many of Gusella’s tapes make use of sound and image processing tools designed by himself, other artists and sympathetic engineers. This screening includes a selection of short work from 1974-1978. Organized by Julia Dzwonkoski and Kye Potter. CURATOR KYE POTTER IN ATTENDANCE!

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10 – APPALSHOP SCREENING & WORKSHOP – 8PM

Appalshop began in 1969 as an economic development project of the War on Poverty. The idea was to recruit a group of Appalachian youth and train them in media skills. Appalshop is dedicated to the proposition that the world is immeasurably enriched when local cultures garner the resources, including new technologies, to tell their own stories and to listen to the unique stories of others. The creative acts of listening and telling are Appalshop's core competency. FILMMAKERS IN ATTENDANCE! - www.appalshop.org

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11 – FINAL CUT PRO CLASS FOR ADULTS – NOON -5PM

Calling all interested adults (ages 18+) looking to learn the beauty and grace of digital editing on the computer. Class covers basic videotaping, importing sounds and images, working with Final Cut Pro. Class limited to 5 students and the fee is $50 ($40 for members!). Email or call to reserve a spot.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16 – GALLERY 825 LAAA SCREENING – 8PM

The State of the World includes short films and videos by David Baeumler (Cambridge, MA), Lisa Vine Baum (London), Natalie Frigo (Brooklyn), Jessica Lawless and Wil Nicholson (Los Angeles), Pattrick Mills. R (Cincinnati), Sietske Tjallingii (Amsterdam), and Geoffrey Thomas (Ft. Lauderdale). Through 16 mm film, digital video, animation, and appropriated footage these works reflect, from current perspectives, on timeless issues: war, politics, society, race and gender. Film & Video 825 is a bi-monthly event/screening of local, national and internationally recognized video artists’ work, curated by LAAA/Gallery 825 and members of the arts community.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18 – “COFFEE WITH LARRY” – NOON

Please join us for an informal discussion with Larry Solomon, an editor working for over 50 years with individuals such as Frederick Wiseman, soccer star Pele and Shirley Horn. He will be talking about his film work and sharing life stories. “The films I will be showing were a pleasure to work on. It was important to get across the instruction by Pele, but the film also had to be entertaining for young people who want to learn to play soccer. This series has been translated into at least 25 languages and has brought Pele and his methods to remote parts of the world”. FREE EVENT and yes….THERE WILL BE COFFEE AND BAGELS!!

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18 – EPFC YOUTH FILM SCREENING – 5PM – 10PM

Join us at REMY’S ON TEMPLE (2126 West Temple @ Alvarado) for our year-end potluck dinner and screening of work produced in the EPFC FREE FALL MEDIA WORKSHOPS FOR YOUTH: 47 wonderful new creations celebrating life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! Join us for a reception in honor of the brand new EPFC VIDEO GALLERY! Local filmmaker and bicycle riding fool DOUG TIANO kicks off his month-long residency as our first video artist. His films and videos will play continuously for the next 30 days. The booth is open during our regular business hours. Come join us for fun, films and libations!

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30 – HIGH & DRY  – 8PM

HIGH AND DRY is a feature-length music documentary paying tribute to the influential and eclectic community of musicians that has emerged from Tucson, Arizona over the past 20 years, including members of Green On Red, Giant Sand, Supersuckers, the Sidewinders, Doo Rag and Calexico. Through performances and interviews, the documentary captures the struggle of one small town's big music scene – where the desert meets Rock ‘n Roll! FILMMAKER IN ATTENDANCE!
