KPFK LSB Outreach Committee presents “I Am Not Your Negro”

Friday, September 29:  Gathering and Refreshments 6:30 pm, Film at 7:30 pm. $5 suggested donation.

I Am Not Your Negro is a 2016 documentary film directed by Raoul Peck, based on James Baldwin‘s unfinished manuscript, Remember This House. Narrated by actor Samuel L. Jackson, the film explores the history of racism in the United States through Baldwin’s reminiscences of civil rights leaders Medgar EversMalcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr, as well as his personal observations of American history.[3] It was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 89th Academy Awards.

Takemoto’s new works explore queer Asian American history and identity through found imagery and an array of handmade techniques including painting, bleaching, and lifting emulsion from stray reels of 35mm films. Takemoto is currently an artist-in-residence for +Lab hosted by Visual Communications and the Little Tokyo Service Center.
