THURSDAY, JUNE 1 – LOST & FOUND: AN ANIMATION – 8PM Lost and Found, an Animation Screening at the Echo Park Film Center. Films by Helen Hill, Maureen Selwood, Dan Coonley, Kelly Sears, Christine Adolph, Karl Lind, Trixy Sweetvittles, Cosmo Segurson, Nancy Jean Tucker, and others! FRIDAY, JUNE 2 – ORLANDO’S JOINT JAM SESSION #1 – 8 PM The brand new episode of the Flash animated hip-hop webtoon about a slacker and his crazy homies who work at a coffee shop in LA. Also, sketch comedy by the Afromedians! Prizes! ‘Toons! CREATOR TERENCE ANTHONY IN ATTENDANCE. FREE EVENT. SUNDAY, JUNE 4 – CONSCIENTIOUS PROJECTOR – 4 PM Join us for the monthly political film series and community discussion presented by our friends at Neighbors for Peace & Justice. This month’s film is Divided We Stand, an account of the filmmaker’s trip across country to Arkansas just before the 2004 presidential election. More info: neighborsforpeaceandjustice.org TUESDAY, JUNE 6 – RESILIENCE: A FILM BY PAUL BOJACK – 8 PM An average man finds himself in a position to prevent the murder of a THURSDAY, JUNE 8 – THE FILMS OF ARTHUR LIPSETT – 8 PM Join us for a special presentation of rare films by the Canadian experimental genius Arthur Lipsett, who committed suicide 20 years ago this April. Lipsett made a series of extraordinary montage films in the 1960s that offer intense critiques of dehumanization in industrial society. The films are brilliant collages of found footage, appropriated still images, and Lipsett’s own work, built up to accompany the equally complex sound collages that he composed first. CURATOR JOHANNES AUVINEN IN ATTENDANCE. THURSDAY, JUNE 15 – THE CHANGING URBAN LANDSCAPE, PT. II – 8 PM This program is a sequel, of sorts, to last January's EPFC screening "LA: FRIDAY, JUNE 16 – POLITICAL FILM NIGHT – 7:30 PM The Union of Progressive Iranians presents an evening of riveting political cinema and community discussion. Call for more details. MONDAY, JUNE 19 – FILMMAKERS ALLIANCE SHOWCASE – 7:30 PM Our friends at FA (Filmmakers Alliance) present their bi-monthly showcase of contemporary independent filmmakers. They have graciously decided to donate 100% of the door back to the Film Center. Always a night of interesting new work and stimulating discussion! THURSDAY, JUNE 22 – OPEN SCREEN – 8 PM Bring us your “poor, huddled films yearning to breath free” and we will screen them. Our quarterly celebration of local filmmakers is our version of an “open mic night”. We invite anyone to screen a film (10 minutes or less) at the Film Center. We can project Super 8, 16mm, VHS, DVD and MINI-DV. Call or email to reserve a spot. FILMMAKERS SCREENING WORK GET IN FREE. MONDAY, JUNE 26 – CINEWOMEN CINESALON – 8 PM Join us for our THIRD in a monthly series curated by Cinewomen LA, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to increase the visibility of women in the entertainment industry by supporting emerging filmmakers through CineGroups, networking, & screenings. Cinewomen LA aims to help their members develop the skills necessary to tell compelling, enlightening and entertaining stories in movies and television. This event is FREE for Cinewomen Members; $5 suggested donation for the general public.
