Film Friends Season 2 Begins September 11 with Alex MacKenzie!

Film Friends is a monthly series that brings established and emerging filmmakers together online for informal discussions on everything analog cinema. Season 2 features  image-makers from around the world in conversation on the theme SIMPLE MACHINES! Zoom in on Saturday, September 11 — 10 AM Pacific Time — as we chat with the guru of the hand-cranked projector, Alex MacKenzie. Free event! All welcome!

Alex MacKenzie is a Vancouver-based media artist working primarily with 16mm analog film equipment and hand processed imagery. He creates works of expanded cinema, light projection installation, and projector performance which he presents at festivals, underground spaces and galleries worldwide. Years back he ran the Edison Electric Gallery of Moving Images, Blinding Light!! Cinema, and the Vancouver Underground Film Festival. He is a founding member of the Iris Film Collective, currently in residence at the Burrard View Fieldhouse in Vancouver.

ONLINE via ZOOM - Sunday, September 19 10 am – 2 pm Discover the joys of analog filmmaking with this fun, hands-on intro class to Super 8 and 16mm. We’ll learn about film history, camera mechanics and analogue cinematography techniques and then put our new knowledge into process as we shoot, process and project some film of our own using a Canon Super 8 and a 16mm Bolex.
