EYE AND IRIS: A BOLEX PINHOLE WORKSHOP

SATURDAY, JULY 25: NOON – 5 PM

In this one-day workshop on pinhole cinematography, participants will learn the basics of pinhole photography, 16mm filmmaking and processing black and white film. We will modify a Bolex to create a pinhole camera and work in groups to shoot 100 feet of B/W 16 mm reversal film.  The session will conclude with hand-processing and screening the results.  No previous filmmaking experience is required. Instructors: Zoe Kirk-Gushowaty and Amanda Thomson of Iris Film Collective (Vancouver, Canada). Tuition: $75 / $60 EPFC Members (email for member discount code).  CLASS LIMITED TO 6 PARTICIPANTS.

Zoe Kirk-Gushowaty is an artist working experimentally with moving image and sound. She works primarily with 16mm and 8mm film incorporating live elements of sound and performance in exhibition. She is interested in the tactile production of analog film and the accidents and imperfections of hand processing. Zoe received a BFA from Concordia University in 2008. Since that time her work has been presented in Canada, USA, Europe and Japan. She is a founding member of the Iris Film Collective in Vancouver.

Amanda Thomson is a filmmaker born and raised in Vancouver. Her work focuses on perspective, the subconscious and other things she can’t quite put her finger on.
