FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1 – ISHI: THE LAST OF HIS TRIBE – 8PM

Lee Lynch and Doug Harvey present a rare screening of the out of print 1978 movie “Ishi: The Last Of His Tribe” written for screen by Dalton Trumbo and Christopher Trumbo and starring Dennis Weaver as Professor Benjamin Fuller (AKA anthropologist Thomas Waterman). Not to be confused with the similarly titled 1992 TV movie “The Last Of His Tribe” starring Graham Greene as Ishi, this film chronicles much of Ishi’s life as a teenager throughout his 40-year concealment. Discussion following with Historian Richard Burrill, author of Ishi Rediscovered and Ishi in His Second World, including the story of the little known Indian Hunter of the Yahi band “Hi Good” and the story of his murder that was connected to Ishi’s tribe as well as the campaign for an Ishi stamp to be issued by the Post Office Aug. 28, 2011, to commemorate Ishi's appearance in Oroville. HISTORIAN RICHARD BURRILL IN ATTENDANCE!

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3 – NEIGHBORS FOR PEACE & JUSTICE: WHY WE FIGHT – 4PM

Conscientious Projector, a monthly matinee series of political film work, features films encouraging us to think and act, followed by a lively discussion with filmmakers and activists. This month’s film is Why We Fight. Far beyond the headlines of various American military operations, Why We Fight moves to the deeper questions of why America seemingly is always at war. What are the forces—political, economic, and ideological—that drive us to clash against an ever-changing enemy? Just why does America fight? THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7 – OPEN SCREEN – 8PM

Bring us your “poor, huddled films yearning to breath free” and we will screen them. This quarterly celebration of local filmmakers is our version of an “open mic night”. We invite anyone to screen a film (10 minutes or less) at the Film Center. We can project Super 8, 16mm, VHS, DVD and MINI-DV. Call or email to reserve a spot. FILMMAKERS SCREENING WORK GET IN FREE.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9 – ADVANCED FINAL CUT PRO CLASS FOR ADULTS – 12 - 4PM

Calling all interested adults (ages 18+) looking to learn the beauty and grace of digital editing on the computer. Class covers advanced techniques in working with Final Cut Pro. Class limited to 5 students and the fee is $50 ($40 for members!). Email or call to reserve a spot. PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED IN FULL BY WEDNESDAY, DEC. 6.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9 – BENEFIT FOR THE WOMEN OF DARFUR – 8PM

Join us for a benefit to raise awareness about violence against women in the Darfur region of Sudan. A short film will be followed by music from Emily Lacy, Vanessa Micale, Gemmelica Kretopolis and The Here and Now. Proceeds go to The Darfur Peace and Development Organization Women’s Centers Project.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14 – PROJECT 59 – 8PM

59 Seconds Festival is a play off, as well as a metaphor for, the short video format that gives an opportunity to introduce 59 international artists and a wide range of video works (mini-documentary, political satire, metaphorical, narrative, experimental, edgy, controversial) including a unique collection of videos that integrate number 59. 59 Seconds Festival is a video storm of a variety of techniques, ideas and visions that is sampling an emerging contemporary international video art scene. CURATORS IN ATTENDANCE!

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15 – ELASTIC IMAGINATION  – 8PM

"Elastic Imagination" is an event where local fiction writers showcase their latest projects to their friends and neighbors.  It's an evening of live readings mixed with music, multimedia and much, much more!  FREE to the public. And a dollar donation will get you a cold beverage (proceeds go to EPFC programs…yay!!!!).

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16 – “IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE” & HOLIDAY PARTY  – 2 PM
           
HO…HO…HO… and a bottle of rum! Join us for our annual holiday party in conjunction with Machine Project for celebrate the end of the year. There will be food, drinks and a FREE screening of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Please join us and bring a friend. LAST EVENT OF 2006!!!!!!
