For the “bootleg artist” known as Swampy, the world is an endless living canvas. Variations on his signature “swampdonkey” tag — the skull of some imaginary tusked creature — can be found in almost every imaginable setting across America: dilapidated skyscrapers in Oakland, Calif.; train trestles in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico; gallery walls in Atlanta or Brooklyn.

Lockhart and Barrow: Interstitials

Lockhart and Barrow, Canadian artists and close friends, have each created unique acts of cinema since the mid 1990s. Each artist has produced a body of experimental animation art which breathes new life into genre film’s dead horse, and demands that one engage with cartoon images on their own surreal terms. Together they will present a selection of recent animation works/performances and then premiere their collaborative “live animation”, “Interstitials”.

Los Angeles Filmforum is pleased to present the work of Berlin-based filmmaker Ute Aurand with the artist in attendance. Throughout this body of work, distinct attention is given to the inner dialogues of thought and the tactile experiences of women. Considered as portraits, her subjects do not reside in isolation, but move in conversation with their surroundings and with the interactive circuits of the filmmaker.
