EPFC's February LA AIR resident Huckleberry Lain has worked for numerous cinemas, film archives and is currently the head projectionist at CalArts' RedCat theatre in downtown LA. Not only will Huckleberry be discussing his 10 year experience as a projectionist, but also working in "expanded cinema" film performances. Learn to use variable speed projectors and how film projectors can interact with each other and with video projectors. You will discuss and experiment with using a projector in a performance based setting.

Saturday, April 6 and Saturday, April 13 – 16MM IN-CAMERA EFFECTS WORKSHOP: TECHNIQUES TO TWIST REALITY TO YOUR WILL – 1 – 5 PM
This 16mm film workshop will be an intensive two-day class for film makers of any experience level. Techniques that we will explore and execute include: split screen effects, mattes, and matte paintings, models and miniatures, stop motion animation, superimposing of text, animation, the creation of ghosts, and more. All of this without any of that pesky and expensive 'post production' time. Students will leave with a wider visual vocabulary for their own projects, the confidence to continue experimenting on film, and a 16mm print to prove their new abilities! These optical illusions and camera techniques are nothing without the filmmakers imagination. Lively discussion and an expressionistic approach to image making will be the real focus for this fun and rapid fire workshop. Bring a notebook and an open mind!

Instructor: Cosmo Segurson
Fee: $100 / $80 EPFC Members

Saturday, June 22 - THE AMBASSADORS OF COINCIDENCE WORKSHOP (ALL DAY)
The Ambassadors Of Coincidence is a cinematic city game to be played worldwide around summer solstice this June 2013. We believe that chance has creative potential. It occurs very happily where playing and a casual attitude come together. We have made several experiments and always ended up in a better mood than before! We've seen places and things that we have never consciously noticed before. We have discovered beauty and humor in the banal. What if we let ourselves be guided by chance and challenge it to play with us, like some sort of scavenger hunt throughout our city? In cooperation with our own personal interpretations, we collect everything and have a good day, which in the end will become a photo, novel, or a movie? Thus, "The Ambassadors Of Coincidence" was born!" (text by Dagie Brundert) The results will be presented on www.ambassadorsofcoincidence.com and at special film events to come. Currently playing the game are Lisa and her Mom in Paris, Sergey in Izhevsk, Russia and several friends in Berlin, Hanoi, Rotterdam, Moscow, London so come join Dagie and Paolo in Los Angeles and be part of the Echo Park contingent! All Ages welcome... more details to follow!!! Free workshop but limited enrollment.
