Upcoming Adult Workshops

Spring 2008 ADULT WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

EPFC’s Adult Workshops are a terrific opportunity to partake in the cinematic revolution! Our classes cover an array of hands-on filmmaking techniques and technologies in a relaxed setting. One-day classes meet at the Film Center on Sundays, 1 – 5 pm; times for longer classes and workshops vary. Check listings below for specific dates.

Registration begins February 1; enrollment is limited so sign up early! Payment in full must be made at time of registration to reserve a spot. We accept PayPal via our website or cash in person during regular store hours.

Cancellation Policy: Tuition is non-refundable. Credit may be given for a future class of equal value if cancellation notice is received at least 7 days prior to the scheduled class.

Digital Editing: Introduction to Final Cut Pro
This one-day class opens the door to the power and majesty of a digital editing program that is fast becoming the industry standard. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.

This one-day workshop is recommended only for students who have taken EPFC’s Intro to Final Cut Pro or have previous experience with the program. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.

Digital Editing: iMovie
A terrific introduction to digital editing! This one-day class covers importing, organizing and editing digital footage as well as adding music, titles and special effects. If time permits, students will also learn how to create and burn DVDs. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC but students are also welcome to bring in their own footage.

Learn the fundamentals of creative DVD authoring.

Introduction to Super 8 Filmmaking & Hand-processing
Using the classic home-movie camera, students will explore the history, application and tender sophistication of small format filmmaking. This one-day workshop includes basic camera operation, shooting techniques and hand-processing. No previous filmmaking experience necessary. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.

Introduction to 16mm Filmmaking & Hand-Processing
An introduction to 16mm film mechanics using a Bolex reflex camera. In this one-day workshop, students will learn basic camera operation, lighting, and hand-processing technique. No previous filmmaking experience necessary. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.

Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking
In this 8-session class, students will learn the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking including storytelling, interview technique, digital camera operation, sound recording and digital editing. Each student will complete and exhibit a 5-minute film on family and/or community history. No previous filmmaking experience necessary. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.
Dates: Wednesdays, 7:30 – 9:30 pm;
Spring Session: February 6, 13, 20, 27 and March 5, 12, 19 and 26

Introduction to Screenwriting
Put that movie in your head down on paper! Learn the basic structure of the Hollywood screenplay as well as how to use the form to develop a blueprint for your own personal cinematic ideas. Learn techniques for brainstorming and how to shape your story by making friends with structure. We'll go over screenplay format and software tips and effective dialogue. I'll even give advice on the best food to serve at a table reading.

Planning Your Indie Movie
A course in how to take your screenplay or ideas and turn them into reality, no matter how minimal your resources. Learn the steps of pre-production and piecing together all the tools you’ll need to get your movie into production. Learn how to organize and schedule your production to make it run as smoothly and
professionally as possible.

Vision Quest
Having trouble finding an idea for your next film? The Vision Quest workshop teaches you how to seek out, and harness creative ideas or "visions". A common practice among California Indian, the class explores and challenges ideas of when and where artistic vision can happen, and how they are best sought out.

Introduction to Production Sound
In independent and DIY filmmaking it’s often forgotten that sound is one half of the audiovisual experience. Learn the basics of production sound; what microphones to use in which situation and how to capture the best possible sound for your production. An introduction to multi-tracking and post production sound will be provided as well, time permitting.

Introduction to Animation
This one-day workshop introduces students to the art of drawn animation.  This will be a five hour crash course on everything you need to know about drawn, but especially things you should consider when animating or observing movement.  Five hours is not much time so please come prepared for fast-paced information overload!

Introduction to After Effects
This one-day seminar will introduce After Effects to those of you who want to learn how to set your graphics in motion and add special effects for your videos. The workshop will be fine tuned for individual needs; you’ll learn the basics of file management, managing the timeline, and keyframes. We'll also go over text paths, alpha channels, and more!

Introduction to Photoshop
Empower yourself by learning the greatest photo editing software on the planet! Unlock the secrets of layers and automated actions. We'll start with the interface and basics that will help you continue to use and explore the program long after the class is over. Feel free to bring a CD of a few photos you'd like to work on… the course will be fine-tuned for individual student needs.
