Welcome shimby!

EPFC | August 2nd, 2021
Hagere Selam “shimby” Zegeye-Gebrehiwot (they/them, she/her) is an experimental filmmaker, writer and administrator who currently works and resides between Treaty 1 and Treaty 4 territories. Their practice engages with themes of place and it’s abstraction from a diasporic, queer and feminist perspective. Currently, they are the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative, Interim Director of WNDX Festival of Moving Image and guest editor of the 6th and final art&wonder publication.
While in residence at EPFC North, they will work on a forthcoming 16mm project entitled Autonomous Uncle, experiment with eco processing analog film and have a screening of some new and old work.
If you’re interested in participating in or learning more about a diasporicly grounded mini workshop on super 8mm, feel free to reach out to shimby at The workshop will be limited to 4 participants and will occur between August 7-14th.
If you’re interested in giving or receiving a 45 minute studio visit, shimby will be available to meet with up to 8 moving image artists, writers, curators and/or artists from other mediums, August 3rd-15th. Email to book a time.

We’ve got Growing Healthy online on Tuesday, Haiku You online on Wednesday, Eco-Lab in person at Moberly Fieldhouse on Thursday, the final session for our international Care Package: Power to the Pinholes workshop with Dagie Brundert on Saturday, the Sunday night Filmcycle mobile screening AND the arrival of our summer Artist In Residence, Hagere Selam “shimby” Zegeye-Gebrehiwot. All events are FREE and all ages!
