2010 ADULT WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

EPFC’s Adult Workshops are a terrific opportunity to partake in the cinematic revolution! Our affordable classes cover an array of hands-on filmmaking techniques and technologies in a relaxed setting. Check listings below for specific dates, times and tuition fees.

Registration begins January 14; enrollment is limited so sign up early! Payment in full must be made at time of registration to reserve a spot. We accept PayPal via our website (use the MAKE A DONATION button at the bottom of our website homepage) or cash in person during regular store hours.

Cancellation Policy: Tuition is non-refundable. Credit may be given for a future class of equal value if cancellation notice is received at least 7 days prior to the scheduled class.

Digital Editing: Introduction to Final Cut Pro
This one-day class opens the door to the power and majesty of a digital editing program that is fast becoming the industry standard. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.

Introduction to Super 8 Filmmaking & Hand-processing
Using the classic home-movie camera, students will explore the history, application and tender sophistication of small format filmmaking. This one-day workshop includes basic camera operation, shooting techniques and hand-processing. No previous filmmaking experience necessary. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.

Introduction to 16mm Filmmaking & Hand-Processing
An introduction to 16mm film mechanics using Bolex reflex and Canon Scoopic cameras. In this one-day workshop, students will learn basic camera operation, lighting, and hand-processing technique. No previous filmmaking experience necessary. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.

Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking
In this 8-session class, students will learn the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking including storytelling, interview technique, digital camera operation, sound recording and digital editing. Each student will complete and exhibit a 5-minute film on family and/or community history. No previous filmmaking experience necessary. All equipment and materials provided by EPFC.
Dates: Wednesdays, 7:30 – 10:00 pm
Spring Session: 8 consecutive Mondays, beginning February 8
Fall Session: 8 consecutive Mondays, beginning September 20
Ages: 20+

SPECIAL WORKSHOPS ... Explore new filmmaking techniques and meet traveling artists!

Sunday, January 24 – BEATRIX*JAR CIRCUIT BENDING WORKSHOP & CONCERT – 1 - 3 PM
Beatrix*JAR is a conceptual electronic music duo Bianca Pettis - "Beatrix" and Jacob Aaron Roske - "JAR". Beatrix*JAR are based in St. Paul, Minnesota and travel extensively spreading the good word of Do It Yourself (D.I.Y.) electronics with hands-on Circuit Bending Workshops and playful conceptual sound art performances.. Participants will learn how to short-cut circuits using soldering techniques, creating handmade musical instruments from previously discarded objects and using them to unleash hidden sounds. Participants should bring battery powered sound making devices (keyboards, drum machines, children’s toys, etc.) to work with. Saturday, January 30 and Sunday, January 31 – PINHOLE CAMERA CONSTRUCTION & HAND PROCESSING WORKSHOP – NOON – 4 PM
Join EPFC staff member and filmmaker, Eve LaFountain, in the handmade film revolution! In this two-day handmade film workshop students will learn how to make their own 16mm pinhole motion picture cameras from scratch and then hand process the film. Day one covers making the cameras and shooting the film. Day two will be a hand processing workshop. The camera is yours to keep at the end of the workshop! All materials and chemistry provided by EPFC. Limited to 6 students. Tuition: $100 non members/$80 members.

Sunday, February 21 – GI JOE STOPMOTION ANIMATION WORKSHOP - 1 - 5 PM
Learn how to make your own GI Joe Stop Motion Animation! Jeff Gurwood (winner of GI JOE FEST 2007) will lead participants on a very broad view of stop-motion, from storyboards to the final product. All materials and supplies provided. Tuition: $20. Space is limited; call or email to reserve a spot.

Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 - IN-CAMERA ADVENTURES – Noon – 5 pm
This two-day class will introduce students to the history and theory of in-camera editing as it has been utilized by the avant-garde through screenings and discussions, as well as basic camera operation and hand processing. Each student will conceive and complete their own 3-minute, in-camera edited Super 8 film. All materials and equipment supplied by EPFC. Tuition: $100/$80 EPFC members. Limit: 6 students. Monday, April 12 – STOP MOTION ANIMATION WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS – 8 – 10 PMThis six week workshop will guide students through stop motion animation production, including storyboarding, shooting, and editing. Each student will produce a short animation that will then be a part of a screening at the Film Center. Basic Mac skills are required for this class. All students must bring a 2-sentence description of an animation idea to the first class meeting. Class will meet Mondays 8 – 10 pm, April 12 & 26, May 3, 10, 17 and 24. Instructor: Nancy Jean Tucker. Tuition: $100/$80 for EPFC members. Class size is limited; call or email to reserve your spot.
